Year 11 began their year attending their Invictus Bonfire evening. This evening involved the students completing four different activities that consolidated the work they had done in the Journey element of the programme last year. This includes showing empathy, acknowledging their personal strengths, teamwork and identifying character traits they would like to work on or change. The evening finished with a BBQ dinner and toasting marshmallows on the bonfire.
A big thank you to the staff who attended the event and ran an activity, and the Paki family who allowed us to have this event on the property.
‘The Invictus Bonfire night was extremely memorable. One of my favourite parts of the evening was when we were roasting marshmallows while we talked and laughed around the bonfire. Another part that I enjoyed yet struggled during was when five of us had to attempt to carry a large bucket of safety water with broken handles to the fire. Heaps of the water had spilled out onto the driveway, and we turned up to the fire out of breath with only a half full bucket of water. My favourite activity was Mrs Bain’s activity, where we had to pull each other over an empty can and share a quality about ourselves that we liked. However, the highlight of this activity wasn’t the actual activity, it was some group members then putting the can on a fence post or throwing it in midair and attempting to hit it with tree bits. Overall, the night was a lot of fun and we all bonded more through the activities and just being able to spend some quality time together.’ – Angelina Cariga
