Earlier this year two Year 10 students, Angelina Cariga and Hannah Mardon, were two of the 47 entrants in the NZ Music Commission Songwriting Competition. It was reported that contestants showed confident use of chord progressions, harmonies, dynamics and feel changes. Lyrics ranged from the thoughtful to the inspiring, through to cheeky and just downright fun.
The judges had to keep in mind the purpose of the contest, that is, to find a new appealing song/waiata which could be sung by both Schools and Communities around the country. Angelina and Hannah both received a certificate to acknowledge their budding composition skills. Well done girls!
